What is an historical video tour?

Caravel on Wheels is an interactive historical video tour, and here is what we mean by this:

Video Guided – you just need to seat and relax. On the screen in front of you many small videos of Lisbon will be shown as we move along the city. Our geo-localized videos tell you the several stories about Lisbon, exactly where they happened a long time ago. We will provide free earphones and the tour is available in your own language.

Interactive – you can follow our interactive map of the city and see our caravel’s exact position. You can also control your videos and decide if you want to explore other videos we provide about many extra points of interest.

Historical –  the videos we have prepared depict the history of Lisbon in many small films, covering historical dates and times such as: the roman era, the Muslim occupation, the conquest of the city, the maritime discoveries, the great Lisbon earthquake, the history of Saint Anthony and recent event such as the construction of Lisbon’s bridge, the royal arrival of Queen Elizabeth II by boat, our passion for food and football and much more.

Where does it go and what will you see?

Caravel on Wheels is a very complete tour of Lisbon and it goes both into old neighbourhoods and narrow streets such as Alfama, Mouraria and Chiado, following the tram circuit and also head to Belém where it stops for 10 minutes by the Jerónimos Monastery. See our complete route map.

Does the tour has stops?

Caravel On Wheels is a closed tour of 1h45, but it does have one stop in Belém, by the Maritime Museum and the Jerónimos Monastery. We will stop for 10 minutes that allow to appreciate Belém and take some picture of the facade of this extraordinary UNESCO World Heritage Monument.

Who is on the Caravel on Wheels bus?

On Caravel on Wheels we offer you a personal experience and therefore our team is there to help you. On a bus that takes a maximum of 29 people we try to accommodate your needs and explain our history the best way we can and make sure you feel Lisbon’s genuine hospitality. Our captain is with you throughout the tour and will be glad to answer any questions you may have, especially during our stops. We also have a sailor that will make sure you are comfortable with your tablets and earphones and is present at the most important moments of the tour.

Do not hesitate to ask for any help.

Does Caravel on Wheels go into the water?

Due to our boat shaped bus we sometimes are asked if we go into the water… The answer is no we are not an amphibious bus, we sail only on solid ground through the streets of Lisbon. The experience of Caravel on Wheels is an interactive and historical tour where you have individual on-seat tablets with videos that explain the city as we move along. The Maritime Discoveries is our passion and explained on video throughout the tour, hence the caravel shape.
